AACI Joins Advocates at “Rally for Medical Research”
On September 14, AACI participated in the fifth annual “Rally for Medical Research Hill Day.” More than 350 individuals took part in more than 250 meetings on Capitol Hill. The Rally attendees represented 37 states and the District of Columbia. The Rally unites public health advocates in Washington to request stable, predictable funding for biomedical research.
House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Humans Services, Education and Related Agencies Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) delivered the keynote for the “Rally for Medical Research Hill Day” kickoff breakfast. Chairman Cole acknowledged breakthroughs happening in biomedical research and the need for stable, predictable funds for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He vowed to continue to work with Senate appropriators, as well as his colleague across the aisle, Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) to ensure the NIH is adequately funded.
The kickoff breakfast also featured a video highlighting the history and momentum of the Rally. Celebrating its fifth year, the rally continues to grow and allows hundreds of participants to be the voice for the millions of Americans who depend on medical research for more progress, more hope, and more life.
