The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Cancer Center and Research Institute, in collaboration with the John D. Bower School of Population Health, is seeking an accomplished and enthusiastic leader to serve as the Associate Director of Population Health and Cancer Control.
About the Position
The Associate Director will provide strategic vision and leadership for the Cancer Center's population health and cancer control initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on reducing the cancer burden in Mississippi, a state with some of the highest cancer rates in the nation.
The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment as Associate Director within the Cancer Center and Research Institute and a tenured or tenure-track faculty position commensurate with their experience within the John D. Bower School of Population Health at UMMC.
Responsibilities
● Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for population health and cancer control research within the Cancer Center.
● Lead and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of investigators focused on cancer disparities, prevention, screening, early detection, survivorship, and access to quality care.
● Secure extramural funding to support population health and cancer control research initiatives.
● Develop and oversee community outreach and engagement programs to promote cancer prevention, screening, and early detection in underserved populations.
● Mentor junior faculty and provide leadership in fostering a collaborative research environment.
● Provide strategic direction and oversight for the Cancer Center's population health and cancer control activities.
● Represent the Cancer Center in regional, national, and international collaborations focused on population health and cancer control.
Qualifications
● Doctoral degree (PhD preferred) in Population Health, Public Health, Epidemiology, Cancer Biology, or a closely related field.
● Demonstrated expertise in population health and cancer control research.
● Strong record of securing extramural funding from federal agencies (NCI, CDC) or other prestigious organizations.
● Experience in leading and collaborating with multi-disciplinary research teams.
● Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
● A passion for reducing cancer disparities and improving health outcomes in underserved populations.
● Eligibility for a faculty appointment within the John D. Bower School of Population Health at UMMC.
