MUSC Health is seeking an Executive Director of Ambulatory Services supporting outpatient Oncology services. The Executive Director will be accountable for providing strategic and operational leadership for the NCI-designated Hollings Cancer Center clinics, including infusion and radiation therapy. MUSC Hollings Cancer Center is one of 72 National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers in the nation and the only one in South Carolina.

This position reports to the Chief Ambulatory Officer and will work in close partnership with physician leadership for the Cancer Center. The Executive Director will oversee operations in five clinics, along with a Director and several managers. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for achieving quality outcomes, patient satisfaction, personnel management, operating budgets, financial management, compliance, provider satisfaction, employee engagement and performance improvement.

The Executive Director not only represents areas under their direct responsibility but also provides leadership around organization-wide initiatives to improve patient care, clinical effectiveness, and patient access and to optimize patient experience and quality.

Job Description

The Executive Director of Ambulatory Services is responsible for partnering with ICCE Leadership to align and execute the strategy and Business Development plan of ICCE. Under limited supervision, the Executive Director of Ambulatory Services oversees and provides leadership for all clinical and support activities for their areas of responsibility. This role interacts pro-actively with other directors, leaders, physicians, nurses and other members of the health care delivery team to achieve desired outcomes. The Executive Director not only represents areas under their direct responsibility but also provides leadership around organization-wide initiatives to improve patient care, clinical effectiveness, and patient access and to optimize patient experience and quality.

The ideal candidate will:

The Executive Director will successfully maintain positive relationships, oversee the continuity of cancer care and integrate activities with other major organizational units and hospital departments.
Demonstrates leadership in critical thinking, conflict management and problem solving
Hires, trains and oversight of oncology directors and managers
Develops and/or implements best practices to achieve operational benchmarks and efficiencies
Meets with team regarding departmental operations, develops plans to ensure goals are successfully met
Cultivates positive relationships among team members and between departments
Exhibits and promotes a “can-do” attitude
Supports or leads affiliated organization committees and task forces.​

Minimum Training and Education: Master's degree in healthcare related field such as Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or MBA is required. Seven (7) years of management work experience in ambulatory care leadership role or appropriate clinical area; demonstrated ability to work effectively with physician leaders; talent in the selection and mentoring of high quality, effective teams; proven ability to lead change, organize teams, and delegate responsibility appropriately; proven ability to use data to drive performance improvement; strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Details: The preferred candidate will have a nursing background and strong oncology operations leadership experience, preferably in an NCI-designated cancer center. This position requires knowledge of oncology regulatory and accreditation compliance experience, along with Joint Commission and Magnet.

The incumbent will have a demonstrated ability to work effectively with physician leaders; talent in the selection and mentoring of high quality, effective teams; proven ability to lead change, organize teams, and delegate responsibility appropriately; proven ability to use data to drive performance improvement; strong written and verbal communication skills.
