On June 18, Association of Cancer Care Centers (ACCC) President Dr. Nadine J. Barrett and AACI President Dr. Robert A. Winn engaged in a lively and empowering discussion about the two organizations' shared goal to advance equitable cancer care.

The conversation focused on patients—both as individuals and as members of a larger community—and the importance of clear, accessible communication. Dr. Winn noted, "We need to be able to communicate in the language of the people more effectively," adding that simplified messaging "doesn't dilute the science."

Inclusion was also a key theme. "The truth of the matter is, people in rural Virginia want to stay alive just like everyone else does. People on the east end of Richmond or in southeast DC want to stay alive just like everyone else does," said Dr. Winn.

Dr. Barrett described her ACCC presidential theme,Reimagining Community Engagement and Equity in Cancer, as the "spirit of community engagement." She will focus on "engaging communities deeply as experts, partners, and colleagues.” Dr. Barrett encapsulated the significance of Dr. Winn's AACI presidential initiative, stating, "Inclusive excellence means including all, not just some."

During a live chat, AACI Executive Director, Jennifer W. Pegher, and ACCC Senior Director of Content and Strategy, Monique J. Marino, shared valuable resources on topics including community engagement, patient navigation, and improving access to cancer clinical trials.
