On March 20, AACI held its annual spring Government Relations (GR) Forum at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) in Salt Lake City. The meeting gave AACI government relations representatives and sustaining members an opportunity to gather and tour the Huntsman Cancer Institute and hear from a variety of speakers on cancer-related public policy.
Approximately 20 attendees heard from HCI leadership, including Mary C. Beckerle, PhD, CEO, and Cornelia Ulrich, PhD, MS, executive director, comprehensive cancer center, and AACI board member. HCI's Senior Director of Clinical Research, Theresa L. Werner, MD, presented on HCI’s collaborations with AACI’s Clinical Research Innovation (CRI) program. Dr. Werner is the immediate past chair of the CRI Steering Committee.
The forum also included a presentation from staffers in the offices of Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Representative John Curtis (R-UT) and a panel discussion with HCI regional partners Sweetwater Regional Cancer Center in Wyoming and the Nevada Cancer Coalition. HCI serves patients in Utah, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming, with a catchment area covering 17 percent of the land mass of the United States.
