In the November AACI Commentary, co-authors Debby Oh, MSc, PhD, of UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Susan T. Vadaparampil, PhD, MPH, of Moffitt Cancer Center, highlighted two sessions at the 2025 Catchment Area Data Excellence (CADEx) Conference.

At 3:00 pm Pacific time on Wednesday, January 29, Dr. Oh will moderate “The Spatial Context of Cancer: Leveraging Geospatial Tools for Better Outcomes.” The session will explore how geographic information system data can be used to track cancer risk and outcomes, including an overview of the geospatial tools utilized by the National Cancer Institute.

The following day, at 9:30 am PT, Dr. Vadaparampil will moderate “Measuring Impact on Your Catchment Area: Data Tools and Analytics at Cancer Centers.” Panelists will share strategies for maximizing the use of data tools and best practices in data analytics. They will also explore how different cancer centers and Community Outreach and Engagement departments are measuring impact in their communities.

The CADEx conference provides a vital educational platform for developing an intentional approach to using high-quality data across multiple dimensions. This three-day event, slated for January 29-31 in Coronado, CA, will bring together cancer center catchment area data experts, geospatial statisticians, and representatives from government and industry to address emerging topics in cancer prevention and control analytics. Attendees will share best practices in data collection, explore policies and methodologies to advance catchment area cancer surveillance, build relationships to transform cancer care through public-private collaboration and technology innovation, and discuss how artificial intelligence could be used to transform the future of data analysis within the catchment area.
