LDDW Spotlight: Dr. Ted A. James

Ted A. James, MD, MHCM, FACS, will present the closing keynote, "Inclusive Team Building: Strategies for Cancer Center Leadership Excellence," at 1:15 pm central time on Wednesday, March 13, during the 2024 AACI Leadership Diversity and Development Workshop in Rosemont, IL. 

Workshop participants will explore practical strategies for enhancing team dynamics to drive collaboration and innovation and acquire valuable insights on harnessing diversity as a strength, promoting psychological safety, and ensuring open communication. Cancer center leaders will be empowered with actionable steps to build teams that are aligned in their dedication to advancing cancer care, emphasizing the importance of inclusion in creating an environment where every team member feels valued and in achieving organizational goals.

Dr. James is a surgical oncologist and cancer center medical director dedicated to transforming health care by promoting patient-centered care and fostering positive workplace culture. He is a faculty director at Harvard Medical School Executive Education where he leads programs for health care leadership development. As a keynote speaker, he delivers engaging, real-world, practical insights and solutions to modern health care challenges. Dr. James focuses on enhancing the value in health care through leadership, teamwork, and clinical innovation. He shares his experience helping teams create and maintain a positive environment where health care professionals can thrive and do their best work.

The LDDW was developed as a component of the Leadership Diversity and Development Initiative, the presidential initiative of AACI Immediate Past President Caryn Lerman, PhD, director of USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Registration is now open for the 2024 workshop, which will be held March 12-13 at Loews Chicago O’Hare Hotel. The event will convene a diverse group of emerging leaders from AACI cancer centers with both didactic and experiential leadership development sessions on topics including authenticity in leadership, influential communication, and inclusive team building.

Each AACI cancer center director may select one emerging leader from their center to attend. The registration deadline is Monday, February 19.
