The University of Arizona Cancer Center invites qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Finance. The Assistant Director plays a key role in overseeing financial and accounting administration including creating financial and budget reports, analyzing expenditures for compliance with budget, policies, and guidelines, developing and implementing processes, procedures, and efficiencies for an annual budget of over $40M. They will effectively manage, safeguard, and leverage the UACC’s financial resources. This position is responsible for various levels of financial reporting for internal and external utilization not limited to federal, state, and governing body.

The Assistant Director reports to the Cancer Center Director and is accountable for fiscal management operations, including the development of systems designed to report accurate financial results. This position requires strong leadership over fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities and works in collaboration with UACC leadership, faculty, and administrators.

Center Financial Leadership:

•            Lead financial planning and analysis efforts for the Center to identify risks and opportunities, supporting the achievement of the Center’s short- and long-term financial objectives. Extrapolate datasets from various applications that lead to evaluating and relational data to conduct analyses to support reports and recommendations to senior leadership.

•            Prepare, compile, and submit annual budget for the UACC and intermediate financial forecasts. Evaluate findings, prepare reports and make recommendations to the Director of the Cancer Center and Health Sciences senior leadership.

•            Oversee, manage, and track institutional commitment, Director’s package, and recruitment allocations.

•            Create business plans; negotiate and develop a financial business plan that is both sustainable and operational, working with both leadership and stakeholders.

•            Manage ongoing relationships with campus constituents to ensure the satisfactory standards of service. Build relationships with departments to ensure fiscal management and commitments are utilized in accordance with guidelines.

•            Work with UACC leadership to develop business plans and financial budget strategies for new shared resources that are both cost effective and financially sound.

Shared Resources:

•            Oversee the rate studies for UACC Shared Resources and meet with Shared Resources leaders on findings and recommendations.

•            Analyze service utilization on UACC Shared Resources on a quarterly basis and communicate outliers and findings with Shared Resources leaders.

•            Meet quarterly and biannually with Shared Resource directors to review budget to actual.

•            Provide UACC shared resources financial and utilization reports to UACC leadership and collaborate on rate studies and budget strategies.

•            Prepare statistical reports, analyze complex data, and prepare financial reports and graphs.

Staff Management:

•            Lead, direct, evaluate, and develop a team of financial professionals to ensure financial planning and analysis projects are timely and accurate.

•            Provide technical and financial expertise and advice to accountants and analyst to help them develop revenue and expense budgets, understand financial reports, and manage their financial responsibilities.

•            Coach and develop staff to enhance functional and leadership skills and expertise.

•            Provide internal and external training both orally and in writing on accounting systems, procedures and practices to staff, lab members and/or PI as requested.

Operations and Advising:

•            Direct day-to-day accounting activities in accordance with the University’s accounting policies and procedures.

•            Direct and oversee purchasing, accounts receivables, accounts payable, and Pcards for all Center accounts.

•            Review startup package and components and analyze the support needed.

•            Develop a sustainable compensation and stipend plan for faculty compensation that is in alignment with the Center’s initiatives.

•            Direct year-end closing and ensure all adjustments and entries are complete in alignment with university guidelines.

•            Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

•            Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and fiscal management.

•            Strong financial, analytical, and modeling skills.

•            Advanced skills in Excel and other Microsoft programs and computer systems.

•            Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

•            Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and accurate.

•            Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

•            Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills, along with the ability to work within tight and often conflicting deadlines.

•            Ability to handle confidential and sensitive financial and business information.

•            Ability to learn and use university systems to create complex reports and presentations.

•            Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of clinical faculty recruitment.

•            Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.

•            Minimum of 9 years of related work experience, including 5 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

•            Experience leading a team, project, program, or function is required.

Rate of Pay
$117,883 - $153,248
