The University of Puerto Rico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UPRCCC) seeks a dynamic leader to serve as Director of the Division of Population Sciences and Cancer Control. This position is part of the ongoing recruitment effort in the UPRCCC and aligns with our strategic vision to achieve NCI-Cancer Center Designation. The UPRCCC is affiliated with the University of Puerto Rico through a memorandum of understanding facilitating collaboration, recruitment efforts, and access to facilities and resources for investigators and faculty members, maximizing leverage and synergies. The successful candidate will be appointed Associate or Lead Investigator (equivalent to Associate or Full Professor). The category and salary will correspond to training, qualifications, and experience.

About UPRCCC:

The UPR Comprehensive Cancer Center is dedicated to reducing the cancer burden in Puerto Rico through innovative research, education, and community outreach, focusing on serving the island's diverse population.

Position Overview:

As part of UPRCCC’s senior leadership team, the Director will enhance the Center’s research in Population Sciences to reduce the cancer burden among diverse populations, including Hispanic/Latino, low-income, rural, older adults, and under-resourced communities. The ideal candidate will have a strong record as a federally funded investigator in population-based cancer research, collaborative leadership skills, and a commitment to mentoring junior investigators. Candidates from underrepresented backgrounds in medicine and science are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with UPRCCC leaders and external partners to advance population sciences.
Build research efforts on health disparities and social determinants of health.
Report to the Cancer Center Director and Executive Director.
Guide the Cancer Prevention & Control Program.
Develop a multidisciplinary research team focused on priority cancers like breast, prostate, pancreatic, lung, and colorectal cancer, especially in underserved populations.

The Director will develop a vision for population-based cancer research, leveraging UPRCCC’s strengths to serve diverse communities. This includes fostering relationships across UPR and with external partners, facilitating cross-disciplinary research, and promoting cancer screening, care, training, education, community outreach, and transformative research.

Required Qualifications:

A PhD or equivalent degree in population sciences, epidemiology, public health, or a related field.
At least ten (10) years of relevant experience in cancer control and population sciences research.
A strong record of peer-reviewed publications and external funding.
Proven leadership and management experience in an academic or research setting.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, education, and practice.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in leading multi-disciplinary research teams.
A history of successful mentorship of junior researchers and faculty.
Experience in translating research findings into policy or practice.
Recognition as a national or international leader in cancer control or population sciences.
Experience with large-scale, collaborative research initiatives.
Demonstrated success in fostering collaborative partnerships with community organizations and stakeholders.
